What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy provides a space to explore the thoughts, feelings, experiences and patterns that may be affecting how you experience yourself, your relationships and your life.
It isn't simply about talking about what's happening right now. Therapy can also help you explore how earlier experiences may have shaped the ways you think, feel and respond in the present.
Together, we can begin to make sense of these patterns, develop greater awareness and consider whether different ways of responding might be possible.
My psychotherapy training is grounded in Transactional Analysis, a psychological model that explores how our experiences and relationships can influence the way we think, feel and behave.
What happens in a therapy session?
There isn't a script for our sessions and you don't need to know exactly what you want to talk about before you arrive.
We'll usually begin by checking in with what's happening for you and what feels important that day. From there, we might explore thoughts, feelings, relationships, experiences or patterns that have emerged.
Sometimes the work may involve simply talking and reflecting. At other times, we may pay more attention to what's happening emotionally or physically in the moment.
The direction of the work will develop collaboratively rather than following a predetermined programme.
