My Journey...

I’m Sam Davies, a qualified and registered chiropractor with more than 14 years’ experience. But my journey into this work has been about much more than learning how to treat a body.

My relationship with chiropractic began when I experienced back pain myself. I discovered chiropractic while looking for answers, and my experience of how much it could help me sparked an interest that eventually led me to train as a chiropractor.

I qualified in 2012 and went on to build my own busy practice. From the outside, things were going well. But somewhere along the way, I lost sight of myself. I was working hard, constantly busy and increasingly burnt out, until I had to acknowledge that the way I was living wasn’t sustainable.

At 36, I made the difficult decision to sell my practice and step away from chiropractic for a while.

I travelled, slowed down and spent time reflecting on what I actually wanted my life to look like. During this period, I began to notice something that would profoundly influence the way I now work: my physical health and my psychological wellbeing weren’t as separate as I had once thought.

Sam Davies, qualified chiropractor and trainee Integrative Psychotherapist

I became increasingly curious about the nervous system and the ways our experiences, emotions and circumstances can show up in the body.

That curiosity led me to study health and nutrition coaching and eventually create Yourhealthnomad, where I explored a broader approach to health, wellbeing and personal empowerment.

When I eventually returned to chiropractic, I came back with a very different perspective. I no longer wanted to look at pain or physical symptoms in isolation. I became fascinated by what might sit underneath the symptoms we experience and by the relationship between the nervous system, our emotions, our experiences and the body.

My own experiences of anxiety, feeling overwhelmed and navigating periods of significant change have also given me a deeper appreciation of how complex our relationship with our minds and bodies can be, and how different each person's experience is.

That curiosity eventually led me to psychotherapy training. I’m now training in integrative psychotherapy alongside my work as a chiropractor, continuing to explore how we can bring together the physical and psychological aspects of our experience.

That’s really the foundation of Sam Davies – Mind & Body.

I don’t see the mind and body as separate things, and I don’t believe there is always one simple explanation for why we feel the way we do.

My aim is to create a space where we can slow things down, become curious about what’s happening for you, and work with the whole person rather than simply trying to fix a symptom.

My philosophy as a chiropractor and psychotherapst...

Mind and body cannot be separated

I don't believe we can understand someone's health by looking at the mind or body in isolation.

Our physical experiences can influence how we think, feel and function, while our emotions, experiences, relationships and wider circumstances can also affect how we experience our bodies.

This is something I've come to understand increasingly throughout my career. My background in chiropractic has taught me to look closely at the body, movement and physical function, while my training in health coaching and psychotherapy has deepened my interest in the psychological, emotional and relational aspects of health.

For me, this means seeing the whole person rather than simply the symptom.

It doesn't mean that every physical problem has a psychological cause, or that every emotional experience needs to be understood through the body. Rather, it's about being curious about the connections and recognising that our experiences are rarely as separate as we sometimes imagine.

Whether I'm working with someone through chiropractic or psychotherapy, I want them to feel heard, understood and involved in their own care.

A little more about me...

Outside of the clinic, I'm usually happiest travelling, walking, stength training, practising yoga, spending time outdoors or simply finding ways to slow life down a little.

I'm continually learning too — both professionally and personally — and that's something I hope comes across in the way I work.
