About the Stockport Practice
Chiropractic is a form of healthcare focused on the musculoskeletal system — including the spine, joints, muscles and the way they work together.I use a combination of hands-on chiropractic care, movement advice and education to help people understand and manage problems affecting their movement and physical function.
No. Chiropractic care isn't appropriate for every person or every problem.Your first appointment gives us an opportunity to talk about what you're experiencing, assess your symptoms and consider whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you. If I don't think it's the right approach, I'll explain why and, where appropriate, recommend another form of care or further assessment.
No. You don't need a referral from your GP or another healthcare professional to book an appointment with me.If you have a medical condition or are under the care of another healthcare professional, it's helpful to let me know so I can take this into consideration when assessing whether chiropractic care is appropriate.
I work with a range of musculoskeletal problems, including back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, joint and muscle problems, sports and activity-related problems, and changes in movement and function.I also work with people experiencing pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain where chiropractic care is appropriate. You can find more information on the What I Can Help With page.
Chiropractic care can be appropriate during pregnancy for some people experiencing back or pelvic pain and changes in movement or function.Care is adapted to the individual and to the stage of pregnancy. I'll discuss your symptoms, health history and any relevant considerations with you before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.
I work with people experiencing symptoms commonly described as sciatica, including pain travelling from the lower back into the buttock and leg.I'll assess your symptoms and movement to help understand what may be contributing to them and whether chiropractic care is appropriate. Where necessary, I may recommend further assessment or another form of care.
Your first appointment lasts up to 60 minutes and begins with a conversation about what you're experiencing, your health history and what you'd like help with.I'll then assess your movement and physical function to build a better understanding of what's going on. Where appropriate, your appointment may also include an initial chiropractic adjustment or other hands-on treatment. The aim isn't simply to treat the area that hurts, but to understand the bigger picture and consider what may help you move and function more comfortably.
Your Report of Findings appointment is an opportunity to discuss what I've found during your initial assessment.I'll explain my findings in straightforward terms, discuss what may be contributing to your symptoms and talk through what I recommend. We'll also discuss your options, including whether chiropractic care is appropriate and what that care might involve. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether you'd like to continue.
No previous knowledge of chiropractic is needed.Just come prepared to talk about what you've been experiencing, how it's affecting you and what you'd like help with. I'll guide you through the process and explain anything you need to know. It's helpful to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
There isn't a set number of appointments that applies to everyone. This depends on what you're experiencing, your individual circumstances and how you respond to care. I'll make recommendations based on my assessment and explain why I'm recommending them. You can then decide what feels appropriate for you.
I'll tell you.Chiropractic isn't the right approach for every problem, and part of my role is to recognise when someone may need a different type of care or further assessment. If I don't think chiropractic is appropriate, I'll explain why and, where possible, help point you towards the most appropriate next step.
I don't routinely take X-rays as part of chiropractic care. In most cases, X-rays aren't necessary to assess musculoskeletal problems or determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate. If your history or assessment suggests that imaging may be appropriate, I'll discuss this with you and, where necessary, recommend referral for appropriate imaging.
Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when provided by a appropriately qualified and registered chiropractor following an appropriate assessment. I am fully qualified and registered with the General Chiropractic Council. As with any form of healthcare, there can be some risks and side effects. These can vary depending on the type of treatment being used and the individual. I’ll always consider your health, medical history and presentation before recommending treatment, and I’ll explain what I’m proposing before we proceed. If I don't think chiropractic treatment is appropriate for you, I'll tell you and, where appropriate, recommend that you seek advice from another healthcare professional.
Chiropractic treatment shouldn't be painful, although some techniques may feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable, particularly if an area is sensitive or irritated. Some people experience mild soreness, stiffness or tenderness following treatment, similar to what you might experience after exercise. This usually settles within a short period of time.I'll always explain what I'm doing and check how you're feeling during treatment. If something doesn't feel right, you can tell me and we'll stop or adapt the technique.
Yes, I do see children for chiropractic care, although I generally don't see children younger than around 7 years old.Anyone under the age of 16 must attend their appointment with a responsible adult. As with all patients, I'll take the individual's age, health, history and presentation into account when considering whether chiropractic care is appropriate and what treatment, if any, may be suitable.
