How I work

A collaborative space for integrative psychotherapy in Stockport, where we can explore what's happening — without judgement or a predetermined agenda.

A relational approach

I believe the relationship between therapist and client is an important part of the therapeutic process.

Therapy isn't something I do to you. We'll work together to explore what brings you to therapy, what you want from it and what feels important to you.

I'll bring my knowledge, observations and experience, while you remain the expert in your own life.

Understanding patterns

We can explore the patterns that have developed throughout your life and the experiences that may have shaped them.

Transactional Analysis offers a framework for understanding different ways of thinking, feeling and responding, including the concept of Parent, Adult and Child ego states.

Exploring these patterns can help you notice what is happening in the present and consider whether the responses that once helped you are still serving you now.

Supporting your autonomy

My aim isn't for you to become dependent on therapy or for me to tell you how you should live your life.

Therapy is an opportunity to develop greater awareness, confidence and choice in how you respond to yourself, other people and the situations you find yourself in.

We'll work together to understand what you need from therapy and what you want to change, while respecting your right to make your own decisions.

Where appropriate, I'll offer information, ideas or practical resources that may support you between sessions — but you remain in charge of your process.

A shared responsibility

Therapy is a collaborative process. At the beginning of our work, we'll discuss what you're hoping to get from therapy, how we'd like to work together and what you can expect from me.

This is sometimes described as a therapeutic contract — an agreement about the work we're undertaking together and the responsibilities we each have within it.

I'll take responsibility for providing a safe, professional and thoughtful therapeutic space. You'll bring your experience, needs and perspective. Together, we'll review the work as it develops and make adjustments where needed.
